and homeowners are boarding up their windows. >> cheryl: mike nicco is here to show us where sandy is at the moment and where it is headed? >> here is a look at live radar and miami, florida. the bulk of the storm is offshore. we are getting wrap around storms as it continues to pump moisture over the land but good thing is it is offshore. rip currents the biggest concern right now. it could actually strengthen a little bit over the next day or so. right now, two players. arctic cold front and tropical system that we call sandy as a hurricane. these are going to converge, new york, philadelphia and d.c. around monday and into tuesday and then linger there wednesday. now because you have two such different air masses colliding together that is why it is such a big storm. perfect storm we had back in 1991 but over land. you can see it move up and stay offshore. we're on the west side but new york will be on the northeast qa depressant and philadelphia, so most of damage will be there. >> kristen: thanks so much. we're going to get mike back in few minutes which includes detroit. it w

:30 this evening. t.j. winick, abc news. >>> let's find out where hurricane sandy is now. meteorologist mike nicco is in the weather center. when do you expect the storm to make landfall? >>> quicker than what people areying it has picked up speed winds are going to be sharp and kick up higher waves. here's live doppler out of delaware, you can see the eye wall starting to come into play from hurricane sandy. it is still a hurricane only 75 miles from atlantic city now moving almost 30 miles per hour, that gives it three hours before the eye wall will come ashore. look at this 80 foot piece of boardwalk floating down the streets of atlantic city, that's how powerful the waves have been this is 540 miles to the west, look how tall almost 700 miles north and south, massive storm that continues to east at 28 miles per hour. it is going to sit in new england for the better part of this week. if you have plans, call ahead. >> we heard t.j. winick talking about thousands of flights cancelled that is causing a ripple effect for bay area travelers. kira klapper joins us from san francisco international wi
